Organizational Overview
Business Services Provides high-quality business services to support the Lab's research initiatives by participating in cross-functional teams with a focus on risk mitigation and cost management, which is a critical component to the Lab's success. Led by Chief Financial Officer George Clark, Brookhaven's Business Services Directorate includes the Budget Office, Fiscal Services Division, Information Technology Division, and Procurement & Property Management Division. The Directorate manages a broad range of financial activities, including the planning and implementation of the Lab's fiscal matters and its approximately $600 million annual budget.
Position Description
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Candidate will perform or support a wide variety of financial functions for the NSLS II Department including, but not limited to; overall budgeting and planning for various funding sources, financial analysis and reporting and labor cost distribution. Individual will establish routine contacts within and outside the laboratory to obtain and provide detailed and complex financial information that will be used to help make important business decisions.
Responsible for budget control on department finances
Responsible for validating personnel forecasting and labor cost distribution
Responsible for internal/external financial reporting and financial oversight
Adherence to all BNL business rules, allowable cost monitoring and compliance
Operating in a team environment and remaining flexible with assignments
Basic knowledge should include budget and control analysis, budget preparation in a proposal setting, Labor Cost Distribution Systems, personnel forecast, reporting and financial analysis, budget oversight and analysis, internal/external reporting and financial analysis
Position Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance/business
Minimum of 4 years of experience in accounting/financial field.
Proven effective communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to interact with all levels of scientific and business staff
Knowledge of GAAP/CAS/FAR requirements as related to areas of responsibility
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Intermediate proficiency with Excel and databases
Demonstrate ability to prioritize and effectively deal with deadlines
Familiarity with PeopleSoft and the ability to generate queries and reports
Be able to identify and understand the path to resolve the majority of problems encountered within own area of responsibility; anticipate and establish paths to avoid problems.
Must be self-motivated, resourceful and organized, taking ownership of all assigned work
Ability to establish routine contacts and provide detailed and complex information that will be used to make decisions of business consequence.
Must possess the ability to review financial data and prepare meaningful financial reports.
Should be a flexible team player who will successfully interact with both the scientific and business staff and will be motivated to assist Senior Business specialists and Management as requests arise
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience with the overall proposal process, including Call and budget requirements
Master's Degree or MBA a plus

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
