Position Description The Office of Project Management and Engineering has an opening for a senior Mechanical Engineer with considerable Project/Program Management experience. Responsibilities:
Conceptualize, plan, and manage major engineering or research projects of unusually broad scope and complexity Apply advanced engineering and project management principles to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and control project plans Design, develop, specify, test, and evaluate solutions and plans to solve highly technical and challenging problems Supervise engineers, technicians, and support staff Lead cross-functional teams to deliver projects according to schedule, budget, and scope Oversee the building and evaluation of complex and detailed prototype designs and models Maintain a safe and respectful workplace environment Position Requirements Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field of study Minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible related work experience which includes project/program leadership and at least five (5) years in a senior engineering role Solid experience with 3D modeling using platforms such as AutoCAD, Inventor, CREO or Solid Works Ability to effectively interact with senior BNL leadership, support contractors, vendors, and procurement professionals Considerable project/program management experience that includes up-front planning and progress tracking methods Ability to lead large scale engineering efforts that include a diverse group of people including engineers, scientific technical and support staff. Demonstrated experience managing risks, requirements, and hazards as well as adoption of configuration and change control management best practices Experience working on projects that follow Earned Value Management (EVM) best practices Excellent organization, presentation, and communication skills Advanced computer skills working in a Microsoft Office environment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Having any of the following is a plus, MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field Project management experience in a DOE Order 413.3B environment. Experience with ANSYS or an equivalent thermal and stress engineering analysis software and the ability to generate engineering analysis reports Knowledge of and experience with machining practices, welding, piping systems design, fluid flow, and heat transfer Experience with project scheduling software tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6 or equivalent Professional Engineering (PE) license PMP Certification Active Security Clearance
Salary Range:
$200K -- $250K
Minimum Qualification
Mechanical Engineering, Technical Project ManagementEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
